As I sat at the restaurant, waiting for my food, I saw that it was delivered on a wooden plate. Why is this? This is because the wood the food is carried on is very poor conductor of heat, so while the food is sizzling hot, it can be carried by human hands without any injury because the heat is taking a long time to get through the different media of materials.
