In this video, I explain transformer impedance conversion (impedance reflection) and how impedances are transformed from the secondary to the primary and vice versa using the turns-ratio-squared relationship. We review the fundamental transformer equations, show how resistances reflect across a transformer, and then move into real-world RF transformer behavior, including leakage inductance, winding resistance, resonance, and bandwidth limitations. I also correlate Bode 100 impedance measurements with SPICE simulations to highlight the differences between ideal and practical transformers.
