http://www.facebook.com/theorthobox Tut 41 - Hollow Clop Whistle Today, we'll be learning a sound popularized by Babeli. Before we kick off learning this sound, do me a favor and comment below with a sound that you want to learn. And click the like button on this video and subscribe if ya haven't done so yet. Mooooving on, the hollow clop whistle, like a bunch of sounds we've been learning recently, is a compound sound. This means it takes two sounds that you should know and combines them to get a new one. Those two sounds are the ability to whistle and the bongo/hollow clop sound. If you don't know how to whistle, I'm not entirely sure how to help. You put your mouth in a circle and blow out and you get a whistle. It's tough to describe how to whistle because it's kinda like explaining how to talk...you just kinda do it. But look up whistling tutorials if you need help. The second component is the hollow clop/bongo sound that we learned way back in tutorial (INSERT TUTORIAL # HERE). I wont go into too much detail here but this sound is made by taking the second half of the basic click sound from drop it like its hot [demo]. So instead of [click demo] you get [hollow clop]. You flick your tongue forward and the sound is made when your tongue hits the bottom of your mouth. One of the tricks for the hollow clop is that you don't need to whistle using air from your lungs, since you dont need the whistle to be that long. Instead, use your cheeks to get a short whistle sound [demo]. Another way to get this effect is by moving your lower jaw up a little to get some of the air out of your mouth, like this [demo]. Now, with the ability to whistle and do the hollow clop, combine 'em to get the hollow clop whistle by first doing a hollow clop and following it up by pushing air out with your cheeks. It is possible to breath out to get the whistle sound but I've found that not using your lungs can do just fine. [demo] This sound has a pretty specific mouth positioning and is hard to fit into a beat so we'll only do one basic practice beat and here it is: B HCW K^ ts BHCW K^ x2 Thats all we've got for the hollow clop whistle.
