Tutorial 9: Using Deformed Geometry and Interpolation in COMSOL Multiphysics

In this video we show how to use the deformed geometry of one simulation to another simulation as well as how to use the Interpolation function to import point cloud data into the software and apply it as boundary condition to a system. We model a piezoelectric structure under a mechanical force as the case study and after solving the problem, we export the deformed geometry as a mesh file which can be imported as a geometry to another simulation. We also make a point cloud set of data by extracting the electric potential on the boundaries of the piezoelectric layer to be used as the input or boundary condition for another study. Then, we start a new model in the Electric Currents interface and we show how to import the deformed geometry and apply the electric potential point cloud data into the boundaries using Interpolation function, and finally solve the new problem. This video is very useful to know 1) how to use deformed geometries for other studies, 2) how to use point cloud data from external sources such as other simulations, experiments, and so on, and 3) how to combine physics which cannot be related directly e.g. Piezoelectric and Electric Current interfaces.
