Tutorial | Automating Dynamic Design Updates with Threads (Part 4/4)
This is the final installment, Part 4, of our tutorial series on creating a dynamic pavement tie-in in Civil Site Design. We now finalise the workflow by automating all previously established steps (Part 1-3) into a single command using the 'Thread Editor'. This video is essential for maintaining a live, flexible design. We demonstrate how to define an action sequence in the Thread Editor that ensures every dependency is updated correctly. The Thread actions include: - Compute Design Model (to update Totalmodel & Surface Extend). - Compute Vertical Geometry (to run the Auto Profiles on all driveway Grading Strings). - Compute Design Model (to rebuild the Combined Design surface via Model Builder). We then test the full automation by making a significant change to the main road's vertical geometry and running the Thread, proving the end-to-end connectivity is maintained. Finally, we enhance the thread by adding actions to automatically Output a Civil 3D Surface of the final surface and refresh the Model Viewer, making project deliverables instantaneous. This comprehensive Thread completes the dynamic design workflow, managing all driveways and outputs efficiently.
