This tutorial will teach you how to finish your cross stitch (or surface embroidery on linen) into an ornament with a beautiful beaded edge, from start to finish. This is perfect for ornaments of all sizes or even larger hangings. I will outline different options and considerations for your choices on thread, beads, backing fabric, filling, and the hanger for your ornament to allow you to create a finish perfectly suited to your piece. Tutorials for the Simple Harmony box will resume next week, with the first stage of papering the box. Materials used: Backstitching and lacing thread Beads of your choice, I used 4 mm Preciosa rounds, color crystal. I used 42 beads from a pack of 144 to finish this ornament. They can be found on Etsy or Fire Mountain Gems Linen for the back of your ornament Felt and bristol paper (optional to fill): My usual seller for finer merino wool felt is completely sold out, but you can find high quality merino wool felt by searching on Etsy, or for a less expensive option, 100% wool felt from Colonial Crafts: https://www.colonialcrafts.com/category/Wool_Felt/c1 Or for a thicker felt (used in the blue poinsetta ornament): https://www.weircrafts.com/items/299453049 Thread/ribbon of your choice for a hanger on your ornament, I used Kreinik #8 metallic braid Tools: ruler, marking tool (ceramic pencil or similar), paper scissors, fabric scissors, tacky glue and toothpick, pins or wonderclips
