Tutorial: pinkeep finishing
This tutorial will teach you how to finish a pinkeep with magnetic interior to hold pins and needles, with ribbon ties and a contrast lining. I am demonstrating on the spring Tiny Treasures kit, Stacy Nash's Feathered Nest pinkeep, but the technique is equally suitable for many other charts. I have used the same method on Stacy Nash's I Will Cut You pinkeep (full details below materials list) Needed for this tutorial: Cardstock or bristol paper for lining Mat board for exterior Felt to pad the mat board Mistyfuse or similar double faced interfacing to bond the lining/cardstock Lining fabric - I'm using Liberty Lawn here but any fabric you have in stash will work Strong magnets - I've used 1/8 x 1/16 inch rare earth magnets Tacky glue to glue your felt padding Your stitched piece, prepared for finishing Ribbon for finishing, at least 27 inches - I recommend the 7mm width of River Silks ribbon - I had said in the video that NIAH carried this, but it appears that's no longer the case. There are a lot of sources on google if you search River Silks ribbon though. Silk or cotton sewing thread for finishing Fine pins Fine finishing needles, I used a #10 milliners needle and curved beading needle Sources: Silk thread: I used Kinkame 50 weight thread, color 93 for lacing. Britex carries the full line of Kinkame, which is a truly fabulous thread for finishing: https://britexfabrics.com/collections/kinkame-silk-thread?filter.p.m.custom.thread_weight=50+wt. For the stitching I used Soie Surfine #2142, which is a near perfect color match to the linen, Legacy Linen 38 count Fuller's Teazel Rare earth magnets: scroll down to the magnets section on this page: http://www.needlestack.com/WebStore/Accessories/Accessories.html Feathered Nest pinkeep chart by Stacy Nash: https://www.etsy.com/listing/947900666/pdf-file-feathered-nest-pin-book?click_key=bd8d34f1d3257bd92e0624a2be90db6cbf392128%3A947900666&click_sum=aae125d9&ref=shop_home_active_66 Liberty of London Tana Lawn: https://www.libertylondon.com/us/department/fabric/cotton/cotton-tana-lawn/classic-cotton-tana-lawn/?cgid=fabrics_cotton_cotton-tana-lawn_classics&prefn1=canShipTo&prefv1=US&prefn2=internationalShippingFlag&prefv2=true&start=180&sz=36&srule=undefined #10 milliners needles and curved beading needles can both be purchased from Needle in a Haystack Details on my previous finish of Stacy Nash's I Will Cut You pinkeep, as seen in this video (previously shown in episode 51): Stitched on Legacy Linen 38 count Brewer's Malt with Gobelins 061, Surfine 2061 for the over 1 with a #12 short tapestry point beading needle The ribbon used is River Silks 7mm color #70 And I lined it with Liberty London Lodden, blue colorway Chart: https://www.etsy.com/listing/961468227/pdf-file-i-will-cut-you-scissor-book?click_key=a140c86113766c7a2394008d405b4e4618e1c69e%3A961468227&click_sum=9e3c2249&ga_search_query=i%2Bwill%2Bcut%2Byou&ref=shop_items_search_1 I owe a great deal to Vonna's wonderful finishing tutorials and can't recommend them highly enough. My technique here is largely drawn from her tutorial on finishing a round flat ornament: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzCfPccMkW8&t=444s
