Uncharted Territory

This book is a response to the almost daily references in media to being in “uncharted territory” with regard to climate change. The text, images and structure underscore the dire situation posed by global warming. The unique pop-up triangle shapes reflect the mountains and valleys that used to contain glaciers. The historic maps shown are from a time when parts of the world were literally “terra incognito.” These include segments of maps from Andreas Celarius’ Celestial Atlas, (1660), Map of Portugal by Lucas Waghenaer (1583), Map of Nova Zembland and Northwest Passage by Theodore de Bry (1601); along with contemporary maps of atmospheric isobars.
