Using the FactoryTalk Optix Runtime and Device Sizing Tools | Tech Support
David Burke, an Inside Technical Support Specialist with McNaughton-McKay, demonstrates how to use the FactoryTalk Optix Runtime and Device Sizing Tools from Rockwell Automation®. Once signed into FactoryTalk Hub, a display will show your apps in the cloud. After navigating to Runtime Sizing, you will receive an estimate of the number of tokens required based on the information entered. Choose which presentation works best for your application, whether Native HMI Client, Web Client or both. Proceed to select the specific features needed, such as alarms, recipes, active directory authentication, basic reporting, audit signature capture, runtime retentivity, event logger, data logger, database or InfluxDB. In Controller Connections, select the method for communication (e.g., Rockwell EtherNet/IP) and the number of connections. The next step shows the number of tokens based on the number of clients you need to accept of servers to connect to if you have an OPC UA client or server. The final screen previews the selections made and the recommended package. You can choose your desired support and will have a complete runtime size estimate. The Device Sizing Tool will calculate the size device and computer based on the amount and type of items needed (Tags, Structured Tags, Alarms, Data Logger, Event Logger, Recipes, Web Clients and OPC-UA Clients). Once you determine which type of screen (low-density or high-density with many graphic items) and how many screens you will use, a recommendation for the best device for that application appears, including the estimated memory and start up time of the system. If you have any questions about using either of these tools, reach out to your local McNaughton-McKay representative or comment below.
