Welsh Dragon example signet ring Video
Hey everyone, I built a plugin for Rhino 8 called I2D (Image-to-Depth) that I think could save some of you a lot of modelling time on relief projects. It converts photos, sketches, and grayscale maps directly into high-fidelity meshes optimized for relief carving, machining, 3D printing. 16-bit Depth Export: You can export the height map as a 16-bit PNG to avoid the "banding/stair-stepping" issues common with standard 8-bit images, giving you smoother toolpaths. Curve Projection: If you're working with rotary axes or need to wrap a relief onto an existing curved part (like a sphere or complex mould), the plugin projects the mesh directly onto your target surface. Live Controls: Adjust the Z-depth, edge smoothing, and material removal rates visually before you generate the final mesh. Subject Isolation: Automatically isolates the relief from the background so you're only cutting what you need. I put together a short video showing the process from image to mesh, plus how to project a relief onto a curved surface. 👉 Workflow Demo Video: [Link to your YouTube Video] 👉 Grab the Rhino 8 Demo: i2dplugin.org It's $80 for a license, but the demo is free to test out on your own files. Would love to see what you guys can machine with it!
