What does "I Can Do All Things" mean?
I’d like to start a new series of messages on verses or passages of scripture that many Christians maybe even most of Christendom has gotten wrong. I call this series “Misunderstood Texts of the Bible” which I have conveniently borrowed from a book by Sir Robert Anderson. And the first misunderstood text that I would like to start with is Philippians chapter 4 verse 13. It says, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthenth me.” So many Christians take this verse as a promise that God will make it so that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to and succeed; as if there was nothing they could not do, that this ensures victory or success, and if for some reason they don’t succeed, it must be because they sinned or at least didn’t have enough faith. Unfortunately, what happens is that this verse is taken out of context and is made to mean what sounds good to us. But as a wise man once said, “A text, without a context, is a pre-text. So instead of making up what we think this verses is saying, let’s read this verse is it’s context. and while we are at it, let’s take a deep cut, a closer look into the meaning of a couple of key Greek words. #godsword #phillipians #icandoallthings #misunderstoodverse #misunderstoodtextofthebible #love #joy #peace #hope #joy #grace #holyspirit #grace #thoughtfortoday #contentment #sacredwisdom Like and Subscribe to my channel https://youtube.com/@sapman78?si=QW4JpxdIK9U26Olu
