What is a Polychord?
DONATE: http://www.andrewwasson.com/donations.php http://www.andrewwasson.com/ Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers questions from off of his Guitar Blog website... Q ). What is a Polychord? A Polychord is a chord that is made up of two smaller chord types, that are generally triads. They are normally used to produce sounds that are quite difficult to obtain with a standard chord. Polychord's are difficult to do on the guitar because of the limitations of the fingerboard. More often than not, when guitarists play polychords they'll drop the 5th of the chord (on one or both triads). A polychord of, for instance, B triad over a C triad could be named using a standard chord, however the name would be quite a mouthful. And, playing it on the instrument would be very, very challenging. Structure can be whatever you like the sound of, but two very popular types are two chords a ½ step apart and also a tri-tone apart.
