While We Still Have Time
Each day the world keeps turning on And souls keep passing through No matter age or strength or wealth The moment still comes due We walk a road we did not choose With steps we cannot see And somehow in the rush of life We forget mortality We wake believing time is ours To argue striven and chase But quietly the moments fade Like shadows without trace So while we still have breath to breathe And love to freely give Let mercy guide the words we speak And teach our hearts to live Let hatred fall let healing rise Let kindness lead the way For none of us can hold tomorrow We only have today No riches ever stopped the clock No title conquered death No earthly power kept a soul From its departing breath Why carry bitterness inside Or fight for passing things When all we own will fade away Like dust beneath our feet The proud may stand on lofty hills Yet all return the same And only love and goodness last Beyond a fleeting name So while we still have breath to breathe And love to freely give Let mercy guide the words we speak And teach our hearts to live Let hatred fall let healing rise Let kindness lead the way For none of us can hold tomorrow We only have today Be the light in someone’s darkness Be the peace another needs For the greatest mark we leave behind Is found in selfless deeds Not the wealth our hands collected Not the crowns that fade away But the hearts restored through compassion Along life’s narrow way So while our hearts are beating still And grace is ours to share Let us forgive more quickly now And show each soul we care For when our journey reaches home And earthly days are through The love we gave the good we sowed Will be what carries through Lord guide our steps while we are here Teach us what is true And may our lives reflect Your love In everything we do
