“Windward” is the 26th sculpture in The Liberty Collection, carved from the second half of a three-ton Colorado Yule marble slab first split in 2025. Created after a rare pause in the fast-moving COLLECTION SERIES, the piece marks a shift toward vertical, more upright forms.
The sculpture quickly revealed the essence of a sail catching wind. A tall, rising peak forms the sail, with flowing lines suggesting motion from bow to stern. While balanced in the round, “Windward” is especially striking from the port side, where its sleek, nautical form is most apparent.
Designed as a window sculpture, it interacts beautifully with light—glowing with natural translucency by day and taking on a dramatic presence under evening illumination.
