A screen-capture video of the "Sandcastle Toolkit" developed in Houdini for translating annotated images of places in the 1509-1510 "Livro das Fortalezas" into 3D scenes. The source image is a drawing of the castle and fortified town named Midanda do Douro, in the north-east corner of Portugal. The video demonstrates how users who have followed the annotatoin workflow for similar images can use simple sliders and menus to develop a 3D scene that adheres to the original drawing, regardless of the perspectival schema used by the original artist. This system will eventually be applicable for other, similar early modern images of places that fall into the ubiquious category of "chorography" or city-views.
