I'd caught my breath at this point. That's a metal stairway crossing over the Upper Falls-- those falls were still closed off for the winter when we were there on May 19th. A ranger said the falls were running particularly well due to the spring thaw; the runoff from the snow melt swelling the rivers. As you can see, the view and the experience was well worth the 600-ft-change-in-elevation hike down (and back up).
