The Zebara Variant is a variation of the Zebra Midge. It is very effective, quick to tie, and great for beginners. Start with a scud hook and place a gold bead behind the hook eye. Start your black thread behind the bead and secure it in place. Next, take a brassie size piece of silver wire and tie it in on the side of the hook shank. Then begin taking wraps back deep into the hook bend, securing your wire as you go back. Build a slight taper from the hook bend to the bead, keeping the body quite thin. Take your wire and make even, open wraps up to the bead. Tie off the wire and break it off. Now tie in two peacock herls behind the bead to use in making a small collar. Once secure, take touching wraps of the herls to behind the bead. Secure the peacock herls and break or cut them off. Finally, whip finish, and your fly is ready to fish!
