A thing about playing the flute is that you have to learn to blow it in tune, we have to learn decent intonation otherwise we'll wreck other musicians' ears and heads in sessions by blowing the high notes sharp (or worse, flat) and/or just generally playing out of tune. Here's two exercises for learning to blow the flute in tune with itself. The first is playing bottom D and then going up the scale of D major in both octaves returning to bottom D and listening out to try and keep all the tones in tune in relation to each other. It's only really worth doing if we're aiming at playing good solid tones, not tones that raise and dip in pitch. The second is some basic arpeggios. These are the harmonic foundations of much of the music we play, and learning to play these basic intervals in tune with each other (or close!) is a good way to learn the intonation of any given flute... assuming the flute is well made to play in tune in the first place.
