Feature of AIX from 2014, so plenty of "field hardening" from real production experience. Briefly: Updating the AIX kernel without rebooting the AIX live kernel. Benefits: No AIX reboot or application downtime to activate a new kernel for AIX technology level (TL) or service packs (SP) update. WARNING: LKU is for experienced AIX System Administrators Only I would allow 2 to 4 days for your first LKU (mostly reading and checking pre-reqs), but a lot faster after that. - Or - Engage with IBM Lab Services for 2 to 4 days to understand the pre-req checks, prepare your AIX for LKU, skills transfer and a few updates using LKU so you get practice.
