Whether it was pronounced Blucher, Blutcher or Bloatcher? Whatever the origins of its name, "Blucher" was the first locomotive built by George Stephenson in 1814. First steamed on 25 July 1814 she was the first adhesion-worked locomotive since Trevithick's "Catch Me Who Can", and the first of some sixteen locomotives built by Stephenson over the next eleven years.
