Calf Stretch
Working with clients who have taken up a new sport or experienced sports men and woman I find that they really find this calf stretch really effective. It doesn't just relieve tension held in the calf, gastrocs, but it eases tension in other muscles and tendons such as the soleus (which is usually more of a problem than the calf), flexors of the foot and the achilles tendon. This technique can be completed with shoes on or off. I often recommend completing the technique without shoes as it stretches and mobilises the back of the toes! If you are feeling stiff in your toes then complete with shoes on. I suggest you hold for between 20-30 secs, repeat on both legs at least 3 times a couple of times a day.
