Part of a series on preparing Google Forms survey data for analysis in Jamovi. This video provides a step-by-step guide to transforming an ordinal variable into numbered values in Google Sheets using nested IF statements, using a socioeconomic status variable as an example. It also explains why this transformation is necessary for ordinal variables but not for nominal variables. When you are done cleaning your data, download your Google Sheet to a .CSV by going to File -- Download -- Comma Separated Values (.csv). DO NOT USE EXCEL. Then open your .CSV file in jamovi: https://youtu.be/putvHX5HGmw. You will create total scores in jamovi, unless you are categorizing data with subscale means and IF statements.
