Drop (Go Down) / Basic Breaking Moves
A special program for learning a few simple Breaking moves using Steppix CORE mat in the IBIS hotels lobby within Olympics 2024. Drop (go down) Brooklyn rock or Uprock originated from Brooklyn, NYC. This battle element of breaking was done to ‘front’ opponents, often with provocative gestures such as jerk & burn. Brooklyn rock or Uprock was actually done before Breaking. Rockers would sometimes drop and move near to the floor, but mostly they danced in standing positions. Downrock became common in the mid-1970s; Keith and Kevin Smith, known as the “Nigga Twinz”, have been credited with popularizing it, as has the original Rock Steady Crew. The emergence of floorwork was an important development in breaking, marking the end of the early or “old-school” style. A Go Down is the move a breaker uses to go from their top rock down to the floor. Preferably this is done in a seamless transition that comes out of the flow of a breaker’s top rock, taking them to the floor without stopping the rhythm of their dance. #breakdance #steppix #bboying #bboy #bgirl #breakdancing
