This glass-like midge pattern is very easy to tie with only a couple of materials. If you are new to tying, this is a great pattern to go with. It fishes great. Start on a small size scud hook - I'm using a size 18 hook here - and secure your thread. The abdomen is two pieces of midge-size flashabou. Secure these fibers to your hook and take wraps over the flashabou deep into the hook bend. Once you've moved your thread back several eye lengths behind the hook eye, begin taking touching wraps of the flashabou strands up the hook shank to where you left your thread. Secure the flashabou and cut off the excess balance. Next, tie in a single peacock herl about four eye lengths behind the hook eye. Advance your thread forward, and then take touching wraps of the herl to one eye length behind the eye. Secure the herl and break it off. Now whip finish a small head with your thread, and you're ready to hit the water.
