Any one should be able to do a lunge. No matter if you have a knee problem or a novice. As long as it is done safely, lunges can be done effectively. Hip, knee and toe should be aligned. DO NOT go so low where your knee drags over your toes. Knee should be aligned over your ankle. Squeeze the glute, contract your abs and sink down as far as you can with no pain or mal-alignment.
