Nothing Scrawled on a Mailbox

A spring ride along a rail trail — new riser handlebars, no agenda, and a mailbox that says everything. Taking the bike out on a quiet rail trail to test a simple upgrade — new riser bars — and to do absolutely nothing in particular. Which, it turns out, is a perfectly good reason to ride. This is one of those rides where the point isn’t the destination. It’s the old rail corridor conjuring up a slower era. It’s stopping for the first spring flowers because they’re there. It’s finding a lookout point with a mailbox that has NOTHING scrawled on it and deciding that’s exactly the right place to stop for water and a few bike photos. And it’s watching an empty Sunday commuter train roll past and feeling the city start to pull it all back in.
