CALLING ALL ANGELS! HELP US GIVE MAX HIS BEST LIFE. This is MAX — a stunning 4 year old Russian Blue with a heart full of hope and challenges that most people would walk away from. BUT NOT US! We believe in the hard cases! MAX came to us on April 6, 2026, after spending far too long housed alone in a windowless storage closet. He was rescued four years ago by another rescue group who did everything they could for him, and we’re grateful for the care he received. But MAX deserves more — a life where he can feel loved, engaged, and comfortable in his own skin. A peaceful, pain-free life outside of a shelter environment. We believe MAX suffers from Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome (FHS) — a neurological condition that causes him to overgroom and attack his hind end and tail. Sometimes he lashes out toward those around him, and it’s heartbreaking for him and for anyone who tries to help. We’ve created a video of MAX that shows the reality of what he deals with. We won’t lie. Some moments are hard to watch. But it also shows his beautiful, playful, affectionate side that has started to shine through. WHAT’S NEXT FOR MAX We have a plan in motion. One built with compassion, expertise, and a deep commitment to MAX’s well-being: 1. Dr. Mike and Dr. Trish at Aspetuck Animal Hospital are preparing to give MAX a full work-up — including bloodwork and x-rays — to better understand what’s going on. Previous x-rays show arthritis in his hips, and we want to know if that has progressed. 2. MAX will be seen by Dr. Karmen Courete, our veterinary chiropractor who will provide a chiropractic exam, adjustment, and acupuncture; therapies we believe can help reduce discomfort and improve quality of life. 3. We are working with feline behavior expert Dr. Rachel Geller, Ed.D, who is knowledgeable about FHS and committed to guiding us through behavior-based support strategies for MAX. 4. MAX has been moved into our former Waterbury location, where he now has an entire apartment with large windows, soft sunbeams, and quiet space all to himself.
