Post Touch Attacking Lines
A skill zone to introduce how to be more specific with spaces you are attacking after the touch, or against a defender holding space. Setting up the drill Start 1v1 7m by 7m grid 2x colour cones half way, about 3m apart Defending player touches the ball to start the game Attacker calls (early) a colour, both players race to that colour 1st Then the attacker can either kick on, or step, or double step Progressions: Add in a half to pop the ball off the floor Remove the mid-way cones Add in a player to initiate the touch and perform a roll ball Allow the half to wrap (now context for who scores where) This is your fundamental attacking space after the touch. Take a player 1 way at speed for 2-3 steps Then make a decision The speed of the roll ball and the speed of the half work significantly impact the chances of scoring Attack: - Watch the defender - Look for body shape, route their are running, position - Tell a story - send fake cues for where you are going - Have to attack at speed - With a wrap - it's about scoring / trying to score in a specific space to create space for the half Defence - Stay balanced - Don't twist your hips - Speed to get onside is critical - Don't look at the line - With a half wrapping - 1st priority is the ball carrier. 2nd priority is the pass - If you can - get off the line
