Sausage Cornbread Dressing | Small Batch
Today I’m sharing our family’s longtime Thanksgiving favorite—my small-batch sausage and brown rice dressing. It’s perfect when you’re cooking for just a few people. This version has all the classic Thanksgiving flavor without the huge pan of leftovers. Print the recipe here: https://www.yourhomebasedmom.com/wprm_print/163450 Ingredients: 1/2 cup of brown rice 1 1/4 cups water 8 oz. of ground sausage (Jimmy Dean) 2 Tbsp butter, salted 1/2 cup celery, diced 1/3 cup yellow onion, diced 3 cups dry cornbread or traditional stuffing 11/4 cup chicken broth Directions: In a saucepan, bring water to a boil, add rice, put lid on pan and simmer for 20-30 minutes or until rice is done. In a frying pan, cook sausage until brown and crumbly. Remove sausage from pan and set aside. In same pan, melt butter and saute onions and celery until soft. In a bowl, combine rice, cooked sausage, celery and onion and 3 cups dry stuffing. Add in 1 1/4 cup of chicken broth, stir to moisten. It should be damp, not wet. Add additional chicken broth if needed. Place mixture into a baking dish and bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes or until heated through. If the top starts to brown too quickly, cover with foil. It should be brown and crispy around the edges. Serve with gravy to moisten.
