The countdown is on! Our beautiful Into Mischief filly is doing everything right between starts as we target May 2nd at Santa Anita for her second career race — a $65,000 Maiden Special Weight at 6.5 furlongs on dirt. Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners' Aron Welman said it best this week: "I love what I am seeing from this gal week in and week out." And honestly, it's hard to argue. Slice is minding her manners for trainer Michael McCarthy, staying focused and professional during this lull between starts — exactly the temperament you want in a filly with her kind of upside. We know she's going to want longer distances — jockey Emisael Jaramillo told us that himself after her fast-closing debut 2nd on March 20th. The May 2nd race is another building block in her development, giving her an extra furlong to work with before connections point her toward two turns and beyond.
