Up early at 5:30 AM for the first set and our girl Slice was looking like a million dollars this morning at Santa Anita! ✨ She went a nice easy 4-furlong maintenance work today, stopping the clock at 50:20 on a fast dirt surface — ranking 55 out of 61 workers. But as always with Slice, the number is only part of the story. This was a controlled, easy maintenance move — and she moved nice and fluid throughout, appearing happy and comfortable in her effort. Exactly what you want to see from a filly continuing to develop. We caught up with her post-work and she was enjoying a nice bath and was wrapped in a warm blanket for her cool down walk. 🧶 These are the quiet moments at the backside that remind you why this sport is so special — a well-cared for, content racehorse soaking up the morning. She looked relaxed and at peace. Santa Anita has just released Condition Book 8 and we are already eyeing some very exciting options for her next start. Based on what we know about Slice — a filly who wants distance — here are the races on our radar: 📌 June 11 — MSW | Fillies & Mares 3YO+ | $65,000 | ONE MILE on the Turf 📌 June 6 — MSW | Fillies 3YO | $65,000 | 6½ Furlongs on the Turf Both are at the right level and both offer the added ground Slice has been pointing toward since her debut. The one-mile turf on June 11 is the most compelling given everything EJ and McCarthy have told us about this filly wanting a route of ground. We will continue to monitor her development and report out on the target as we get closer. The best is still ahead for this filly! 🏇 Slice (Into Mischief x Lemoona, by Lemon Drop Kid) Trainer: Michael W. McCarthy
