This tutorial, the second part of the specialty thread tutorial, is a practical demonstration in doing a silk conversion, featuring my stitch of Plum Street Samplers Blueskin. I describe my process and considerations when picking threads, and show how I adjust my choices as I stitch. katie-strachan.com @kstrachanembroidery on Instagram General principles to remember when doing an original conversion: Start with what you know you want to use, and work outwards from there My first choice of thread is always Soie Gobelins, and then I fill out with 100/3 where I need specific shades not available in filament silks And I always make use of what I have, so if I have the right color in Paris and not in Gobelins, I'll use Paris. Gobelins is a first choice, not the only choice. Work by laying your threads out on your chosen ground linen, so that you know threads and linen are working together Don't be afraid to try out different possibilities and adjust your choices as you go along - I don't always pick the right threads on the first pass myself, despite having an extensive stash and a deep knowledge of how I like to use my threads.
