Feeling intimidated by sun salutations? Sun salutations (Surya Namaskar) are a classic yoga sequence that is often used as a warm-up. They are a great way to get your blood flowing, stretch your muscles, and prepare your body for more challenging poses. If you are new to yoga, sun salutations can be a bit daunting. But there are many ways to modify them to make them accessible to beginners! In this tutorial, I will show you several different variations of sun salutation A and offer modifications so that you can flow through this invigorating sequence with confidence. Here are the basic steps of a sun salutation, but please watch the tutorial for tips on technique and modification options: Start standing in mountain pose (Tadasana) at the top of your mat. Inhale and raise your arms overhead (Urdhva Hastasana). Exhale and fold forward at the hips (Uttanasana). Inhale and come to a half-bend (Ardha Uttanasana). Exhale and step back into plank pose, lower to your belly or take Chaturanga Dandasana. Inhale into cobra pose (Bhujangasana) or upward facing dog (Ardha Mukha Svanasana). Exhale and come to downward-facing dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana). Inhale, come high on your tiptoes, exhale and walk, step, or hop forward to the front of your mat. Inhale half-bend (Ardha Uttanasana) Exhale, forward fold (Uttanasana). Inhale and raise your arms overhead (Urdhva Hastasana). Exhale, hands by your sides in mountain pose (Tadasana).
