Thought in the Dark
Thought in the Dark This one actually started as the subject line of an email. Casting out to see if a friend had time to come and chill when I wasn’t feeling too hot. After I sent it, it kept coming to mind, so I figured there was a song in there somewhere. Wrote a few lines to give it some company and those became the chorus, but then I couldn’t really think of where to go with it. As a way to try to make some progress, I wrote down 4 lines that all ended with the phrase “like a thought in the dark”. I spread them out across the page. Then I just wrote one line above each of those, something to connect to it or just expand the idea a bit. Then I went back and wrote another couplet that linked in with each of those. So I guess I wrote each of the 4 stanzas backward from the end of the last line (kinda like how I always read magazines from back to front…it’s easier to flip the pages that way). This is one that I changed the music on a few times. In my head it was a bit heavier and louder and faster. It may still end up there someday, but for now I can’t quite belt out notes the way I used to, so I changed the style a bit to allow for some slightly more understated vocals. Funny, the things that influence an end product sometimes…
