Truss Element for Mooring Lines (Flexcom)

Video showing the new truss element which was introduced in Flexcom 2022. It’s very useful for modelling lines with very low structural bending stiffness, such as mooring chains or wires. Because the truss element solves for nodal displacements only, and ignores nodal rotations, numerical convergence on bending is not an issue as it might be for a traditional beam element in Flexcom. This ensures a robust solution and allows the solver to use relatively large timesteps, giving much quicker simulation times overall.
