I needed a few spindles for a gift project so I decided to turn my own. The original project, from the October 2003 issue of WOOD Magazine, used 3/8" dowels. I thought the project would look better with a turned spindle. As shown in the video I dyed the spindle and the other parts of the project. The walnut I used was kilned dried which, from my experience, tends to get lighter over time. I wanted the project to maintain a nice walnut color over time. The dye was a combination of 1 part Medium Brown, 1 part Light Brown and 1 part Vintage Cherry. All dyes I used were from General Finishes. The projects turned out very nice and were well received by the recipients.
