Archetype Exploration: The Orphan

The Orphan archetype is the Inner Child that was wounded and whose fall from grace, from the Utopian paradise of the Innocent, has made a conclusion about life - we are all on our own. The Orphan and the fall from grace is the catalyst - albeit forced or unwilling - to separate from dependance and re-find a new sense of safety and identity. Awareness of our inner Orphan is crucial to our ability to deal with pain, vulnerability, rejection and to learn to love ourselves and others more deeply. It may define itself by separateness, but ultimately it's gifts bring us into deeper empathy with the world and can lead to meaning and purpose, informed by the challenges we face.
