Follow me on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/FTBBX/ Transcript: In this video I’m going to teach you the three most basic beatbox sounds, and give you a few beats to practice them with. The sounds you’re going to learn are the kick drum - { B B B B } - the hi-hat - { t t t tss } - and a simple snare, a rimshot - { k k k k } The kick drum is, at it’s simplest, is a “b” sound and this is why it’s commonly represented with the letter B in notation. When you say the letter “b” you build up a little pressure in your mouth and the air escaping through your lips, along with a vocalization, makes the letter “b”. You really just want the air, though, not the vocalization. When you have that light “b b b b” sound you’re on the right track! Now tighten your lips to get more pressure and use more air, and the sound will be a lot louderr. { B B B B }. Now, the hi-hat is so simple it doesn’t need much explaining. It’s literally a “tuh” sound. { t t t t } It is commonly represented using the letter t in beatbox notation. Now, the short version of this sound is called a closed hi-hat, and this imitates when a real hi-hat has the two cymbals closed. To get an open hi-hat, you simply add a hiss to the end. { tss tss tss } { t t tss / ttt t tss } The easiest snare, and the first one I learned, is a rimshot. Later you’re gonna learn dozens of other snares but this one is perfect for beginners. It’s really a “kuh” sound and that’s why it’s so commonly written as the letter “k.” When you make a “kuh” sound the air coming from your throat interacts with the back of your tongue to get that “k k” - “kuh kuh k k.” But if you put the front of your tongue up against the top of your mouth as well you can get more pressure to the sound and make it much more clear, so “k k” becomes { K K K } Congratulations - you’re now a beatboxer! You can make up your own beats, or try these ones for practice. { B - t - k - t - / B - t - k - t - / B - t - k - t - / B - t - k - t - } { B - t - k - t - / t - B - k - tss / B - t - k - t - / t - B - k - tss } { B - t - k - B - / t - k - B - tss / B - t - k - B / - t - k - B - tss } Do you have any questions?
