This is for the very selfish reason that I had NO END of trouble with this bloody sound when I first learned it. With that said, don’t be discouraged if this is one of those ones that takes a little bit longer than normal to learn. Just stick at it, you’ll get it eventually. The classic snare is literally done by forcing air through your lips, very much like the kick drum, only much tighter. Instead of { B B } you get a tighter { Pf Pf Pf } The sound, by itself, before you have any… for lack of a better term “trail” to it, any variety, is just { P P P P P } and that’s literally just by pursing your lips super tight and letting air go through. { P P P P } What most people do when they do this sound is add a “f,” a “sh,” or a “ss” to it so you get { Pf Pss Psh } and this can kind of add a little variety. Personally, I prefer { Pf } than any other, but if you switch them up a bit you can get some interesting results. So, for example {B t Pf t / B t Pss t / B t Psh t } You can hear how different the beats sounded. And you can of course put this in any beat, much like you did the original rimshot. { B t Pf t / B t Pf t } { B t Pf t / t B Pf t / B t Pf tf / t B Pf t } { B ^BB B t Pf t t B / B t B t Pf t t B } I hope this video has helped, please hit the “like” button if so! Don’t forget to subscribe if you haven’t already. Do you have any comments, questions, or requests for future videos? Do you just want to brag about how you able to pick that sound up right away whereas it took me eight MONTHS? Please let me know down in the comments below, I read every single one of them and I’m always considering new ideas and requests for future videos.
