The Friends of Hampton Park regularly removes invasive species from this old growth forest. As a result of our work, we set up three invasive plant collection bins. This eliminates the need for bags and for City waste crews to pick them up -- win win!
Once the invasive material rots, it's inert (cannot regrow) and can be used as compost but only if it's plant material, and not contaminated with other trash, especially dog waste (which can contain a host of nasty things).
Unfortunately, this small bin kept getting used as a regular trash bin, despite signage on it asking people not to use it this way. This has meant substantially more work for volunteers and we have therefore, taken this smaller one out of commission.
