One of the Rainhill Also-Rans: Novelty, built by the international duo John Braithwaite of London and Captain Johan Ericsson of Sweden. Novelty was the "people's favourite", "covered in copper like a new tea urn" but as George Stephenson remarked "she's got no guts". Was George right in his assessment of the technically brilliant design?
