Ignore the crazy hair. The psoas and illiacus are collectively called the hip flexors (rectus femoris as well). Their job is to connect the upper and lower portions of the body. They bring the knee up -or flex the hip.
The psoas is also known to be a very emotional muscle. So this series is not something I recommend if you are under a lot of emotional stress. It is best done when you are feeling pretty emotionally strong.
