Teaching Community Languages with a Difference

Topic 7: Using classroom technology with a difference This session will talk about technological resources which can be used to promote the teaching and learning of community languages. Synchronous tools such as web conferencing and non-synchronous tools such as social media platforms will be introduced and compared. Furthermore, different teaching methodologies including task-based language teaching (TBLT), audio-lingual methodology will be discussed with practical teaching examples. Dr Sijia Guo is a Lecturer in Chinese Studies in the Department of International Studies at Macquarie University. Her research interests focus on Task-based Language Teaching, Online Chinese teaching via web-conferencing systems, and second language acquisition and captioned videos in foreign language education.
