The Capstone

[verse] One day a landowner planted a vineyard And he rented it out to some farmers in trust He then went on vacation, for he had faith in his tenants Felt his holdings were safe, that they’d do as they must [verse] When the time came for harvest, he sent some of his servants To collect from his tenants the fruit from his fields They beat one, and shamed one, and wounded another And threw them all out without sharing their yields [verse] The owner said, “I’ll send the Son that I love” “Perhaps they’ll respect Him; most have done what He’s said” But the tenants said, “Let’s kill Him; we will then be the owners” So they threw Him from the vineyard, and left Him for dead [chorus] What will the owner come and do to these tenants? He will put them to death, and give his land to the good The Stone they rejected is becoming the Capstone Those who fall on it are broken; it crushes some, as it should [verse] As the common folk hear, they have a shocking conclusion That the owner is training the pagans to farm But the scholars and priests heard Him speaking against them So they plotted His arrest, sought to do Him much harm [chorus] What will the owner come and do to these tenants?
