This is the final video in a three-part series where I am discussing “complex training” and “post-activation potentiation.” Complex training involves combining a heavy-load, non-fatiguing resistance training exercise, with a subsequent high-velocity plyometric exercise that has a biomechanically similar movement pattern. A rest period occurs for several minutes between completion of the resistance training exercise set and the beginning of the plyometric exercise set. Some studies have suggested that complex training may lead to greater improvements in various measures of performance (e.g., increased sprint speed and jump height) than any other form of combined strength and plyometric training. In this video, a lower body complex training workout session is demonstrated so you can understand how this type of training is performed to induce post-activation potentiation (PAP) in a single workout. PAP refers to the phenomenon by which acute muscle force output is enhanced as a result of muscle contractile history, and is the premise upon which complex training is based. Explosive movements such as sprinting and jumping may be enhanced if preceded by heavy resistance exercise. Kyler Reed demonstrates some resistance and plyometric exercises that can be paired together and performed in a lower body complex training session. Kyler was a member of the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team where he played tight end between 2008-2012. He was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten Conference selection in 2012. In 2010, he broke the single-season school record for touchdown catches by a tight end with 8 total TD’s. After graduating from Nebraska, he spent time playing professional football with the New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, and several arena/indoor football teams. Most recently, Kyler was an Assistant Football Coach and Strength and Conditioning Coach at Highland Community College. If you have specific questions about exercise science, kinesiology, sports performance enhancement, bodybuilding, nutrition, supplementation, training, exercise program design, exercise technique, rehabilitation, injury prevention, etc., leave a comment below and I will try my best to produce a video over the topic in the future! #complextraining #strengthtraining #plyometrics #athlete #football Follow Dr. Taylor on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dr.jordan_taylor/ Visit the University of Kansas Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Sciences Website: https://hses.ku.edu/ Visit the University of Kansas Edwards Campus Exercise Science Website: https://edwardscampus.ku.edu/overview-bachelors-exercise-science/
