#lowkey session 04 : MIM
It's hard to not be reminded of early Damn Dirty Apes and Mogwai when listening to MIM @soundsofmim . While all have distinct sounds, elements of their music are similar. Their compositions have clear structures that give space for hooks and licks to embelish, making listening easier. The structure also creates repetition, which is remindful, giving something to look forward and return to. Not to get caught up in genre definitions, but MIM seems to enjoy their space between conscious psychedelia (it's sounds counterintuitive, we know) and moody reflective post-rock. For the unfamiliar and curious, their session should be timely. If you are looking for hope, Dinihari reminds you to start looking at the little things in life. If you are looking for some momentum to push through life, Gelora is an homage (to you). Jagat, on the other hand, is an example of how spontaneous and adventurous the band can be, composing together off of lyrics that were written right after waking up from a weird dream. There is a lot of thought behind MIM's music. Has's preambles and introductions show that clearly. What is also clear is how interesting and distinctive his voice is. MIM is more instrumental than the likes of On A Trip, but with Has's vocals they have a dimension to their music that allows them to venture more.
